In the previous post, we introduced STWmail and explained why we run it on Open-Xchange. In this post, we discuss the three mailbox types available and how to begin using STWmail.

Three Mailbox Types — Built to Fit

STWmail comes in three mailbox types. The type is set per mailbox rather than account, so you can choose the best option for each email.

Included, which comes with every domain and hosting plan at no cost. Professional email on your own domain, with a web-based email app, calendar, contacts, and tasks.
Plus, for users who also need desktop and mobile mail apps, a larger mailbox, and calendar and contact sync across their devices.
Pro, for those who also want file storage, document editing, advanced scheduling features, and team collaboration tools.

You can create as many Included mailboxes as you need, and move any single mailbox up to Plus or Pro later. Upgrades apply immediately with prorated billing, and downgrades take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.

If your organisation is managing larger teams or edge cases not covered by the standard options, we’re happy to hear from you — especially if you’re managing a few dozen inboxes and need something more tailored.

Add-ons

Two add-ons can be switched on for any Plus or Pro mailbox: OX Guard, which handles end-to-end encryption and email signing, and the AI Assistant.

The AI Assistant is designed to help you write, reply to, and summarise emails faster. It can help you strike the right tone, whether formal or more relaxed. It can be switched on and off as you require.

Setup and Migration

Whether you’re starting fresh or moving from another service, setup is straightforward.

Activating STWmail on a domain drafts the DNS records you need. If your domain uses our nameservers, the STWmail template in the DNS panel applies the whole set in one click. The records are re-checked every fifteen minutes so you can see that mail can flow. See our guide to the STW DNS control panel for more details.

The built-in Migration Assistant can move your emails, contacts, calendar events, and tasks. If you need any assistance, simply reach out to support and we’ll help you move your emails across.

Where to Start

STWmail is already available in the STW control panel. You can create as many mailboxes as you need there. Forwarders are free and need no mailbox at all, if you’d prefer.
